Forums Module :: Person-to-Person

If the "killer app" of the Internet is people, then forums are one of the best ways to harness its potential.

The Willco Forums Module allows you to publish and control an online threaded discussion, without requiring you to download software, add complex scripting to your existing web site, or work under an outside vendor's branding or domain.

Forums engage and involve users of all kinds to bring them into closer relationship with a publisher. With a simple system of headers and footers, controlled through the Admin Module, you can integrate a Forum into your website such that visitors never notice that they are on the Willco server.

Willco built the Forums Module to meet specific needs and requirements, resulting in an outstanding slate of user benefits:

  • Closed or Open: Forums can be open to all visitors or only available to those with an account in your community.

  • Replies: Visitors can reply to postings, thus creating a 'threaded forum'. An example of a threaded forum is the FreePint Bar. [If you prefer to disallow replies (a 'blog forum'), please view the Willco News Module.]

  • Search: Enable fast keyword searches across the full-text of postings, including the message subject and author name.

  • Moderation: Administrators have full control over postings, allowing them to Edit, Delete or Orphan (start a new thread from a reply). You are also emailed a copy of postings as soon as they are made.

  • Categories: Administrators maintain a list of categories which posters can link individual postings to, browsing by subject rather than chronology.

  • Digests: In association with the Lists Module, administrators choose which days of the week to send a digest of the latest postings. Digests may include only message headers or the entire message body. Administrators moderate digests before they are circulated.

  • Customisation: Edit digest and forum 'headers' to guide users on the purpose, usage, policies and security (if appropriate) of the Forum.

  • Access Control: Control access to the forum so that only existing members or administrator-added members can access the forum. Optional "auto-login" feature means they'll automatically have access again on their return to the forum.

  • XML/RSS Content Feeds: Allow visitors to subscribe to a content feed of the 10 latest postings, providing information as they prefer to receive it and leading them back to your site.

Cost

The Forums Module carries only a monthly standing charge, and requires the use of the Members and Admin Modules.
